“It’s Time To Put On Make-Up / It’s Time To Come Ye Back …”

If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. It’s been a tough week, folks, but the vid below fair cheered me up. Although Adrian McKinty may want to avert his eyes … The Big Question: Is ‘Danny Boy’ beyond parody?

  1. Oh, boy. Or "Jösses, Amalia", as a Swede (chef, or otherwise) might say.

Cheer you up? It brought tears to my eyes. Lips are twitching, though.

  3. I'm reliably informed by my Swedish division that the 'Swedish Chef' is in fact the 'Italian Chef' in Sweden. Could this possibly be true? Say it ain't so, Joe ...

  5. I don't know, Ms Witch ... Albert Finney taking that stogie out of his dressing-gown pocket always makes me smile ... Cheers, Dec

  6. Nah, I saw that one coming. Anyway, smoking kills. Do machine guns come with warnings, I wonder?

  7. After extensive research (Swedish Wikipedia) I can announce that the Swedish chef is the Swedish chef in Swedish, as well. Though I'd better not translate that in company like this. It's not often I get to write Swedish five times in three sentences.

Declan Burke has published a number of novels, the most recent of which is ABSOLUTE ZERO COOL. As a journalist and critic, he writes and broadcasts on books and film for a variety of media outlets, including the Irish Times, RTE, the Irish Examiner and the Sunday Independent. He has an unfortunate habit of speaking about himself in the third person. All views expressed here are his own and are very likely to be contrary.
